ABOUT SRI DEVARAJ URS MEDICAL COLLEGE
Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, a constituent college of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research under the aegis of Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust for Backward Classes, Kolar, is recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The college and the University office are located at Tamaka village, Kolar and spread over almost 100 acres of lush green campus. This campus is 75K.M. away from Bangaluru as well as the Bangaluru International Airport. The campus has several buildings to accommodate the administrative, teaching/training, hospital, hostel facilities of The University and the Medical College with a total build up area of 85,000 sq.mtrs. The college conducts medical courses at Under Graduate (MBBS), Post Graduate (MD, MS) and Post Graduate Diploma levels and plans to start doctoral programmes in Biochemistry, Microbiology and fellowship programme in Head and Neck Onco- Surgery . The University has also decided to design a revised curriculum for MBBS course within the regulations as prescribed by the Medical Council of India.

This medical institution has a unique distinction of accreditation by NAAC India and certification by ISO 9001-2000 and maintains a high standard in teaching learning evaluation process and the institution has become a byword for quality Medical Education.

The attached teaching hospital of the Medical College, R.L.Jalappa Hospital and Research Centre provides secondary and tertiary health care to the rural and urban population of the Kolar district and bordering areas of the neighboring states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and is also a boon to the victims of accidents on the highway as it has a well equipped Trauma Centre, ICU and scanning facilities of CT and MRI. Its mandate is to develop trained manpower of medical professionals to cater to the needs of the community and provide service to the needy rural population. The University also has set up an OP Unit at Kolar town and conducts committed outreach services to the needy through free medical camps at taluk levels as well as in villages of remote areas.
GENESIS
In 1984, dedicated and like-minded visionaries headed by Shri.R.L.Jalappa, Champion of co-operative movement established Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust, for Backward Classes, to focus on Medical Education and Social Service.

The trust started Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Tamaka, Kolar in the year 1986. Through this college the trust sought to make a significant contribution to Medical Education, Research and Health Care to Rural population. The College is situated at Tamaka (abutting National Highway No.4 – between Bangalore and Chennai), 5 K.M. from KOLAR, Karnataka. Kolar is well connected by road, rail and air due its proximity to Bangalore, which is 75 K.M. away. The nearest Railway Junction, Bangarpet is 15 K.M. away from Kolar.

The trust in its stride for attainment of quality service to its stake holders has obtained Accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC, INDIA) and certification by ISO 9001-2000 in the year 2006 for its Medical College. Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College is one of the few Medical Colleges in India to have achieved this remarkable feat.

Admission Policy

Admissions to Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses are based on merit obtained in the Entrance Test conducted on an all India basis. 80% of the seats are reserved for General merit candidates. 15% of the seats are reserved for NRI / NRI sponsored and Foreign nationals. 5% of the seats are reserved under institutional preference quota.

Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research comprising Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College under the aegis of Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust for Backward Classes, Kolar, is a Deemed to be University declared Under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, vide Notification No.F.9-36/2006-U.3(A) Dt. 25th May 2007, MHRD, Government of India.

R. L. JALAPPA HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH CENTRE: Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher and Education Research has a 1050 bedded Teaching Hospital to accommodate the clinical-teaching requirements of undergraduate and post graduate medical students and to satisfy its social obligation of meeting the health needs of the people of the region. Its design is hexagonal and it is situated in the college campus with good ventilation, spacious waiting halls and corridors surrounded by lush green lawns. The ambience has a soothing effect on the patients, their attendants, students and staff.

The excellent services and facilities offered by the hospital makes it comparable to any other leading medical establishments in the country. The hospital has full fledged Departments in all specialties. Each department has its own seminar hall and examination rooms in the Out Patient department. Each specialty has male and female wards, with bed strength as per MCI requirements with attached laboratoryoratories.

HOSPITAL SERVICES:It is the only centre in this region to offer Super Specialty Services in Cardiology, Nephrology, Diabetology, Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Urology. Nephrology department has 7 dialysis machines and functions round the clock.Cardiology unit has tied up with M/s Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore. The Oncology department has full fledged Medical, Surgical and Radiation Oncology facilities and is also equipped with latest Radiotherapy facilities -Cobalt-65

There is a state of art Operating Room complex consisting of 12 Theatres equipped with latest ventilators, monitors, electro-cautery, laparoscopy and C-arm.The Surgeons are well supported by experienced Anaesthesia faculty, Nursing staff and Laboratory Technicians. Medical, Surgical, Paediatric and Central ICUs are available to take care of very sick patients and are manned by concerned specialists, anaesthetists, intensive care personnel, experienced nursing staff and laboratory technicians. There is a full fledged Accident & Emergency Department with Ambulances and mobile ICU to offer round the clock emergency services.There is an advanced Central Laboratory offering all the Routine and Specialty Tests in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Pathology. The Radiology Department has latest MRI, CT, Duplex Scan, Doppler, Angiography, Mammography and IITV, in addition to routine radiography equipments. The well stocked hospital Blood bank is the only source for blood and blood components for this entire region and adjoining Andhra Pradesh. Voluntary blood donation camps are conducted regularly.

The Hospital provides charitable services, free food, beds and medicines. The hospital Pharmacy, voluntary social services, free transportation, canteen facilities etc; add to the comfort of the patients and their attendants.

The hospital has a central Suction and Oxygen supply unit, Laundry, Incinerator and Sanitation wings and Central Sterilization Services Department.

The Hospital Infection Control Committee oversees the process of Hospital Infection Control.Hospital Transfusion Committee will monitor the procurement, storage and distribution of blood and blood components as per the guidelines specified under Drug Control act and National Aids Control Organization (NACO) guidelines and also monitors the utilization of various blood and blood components on specified clinical indications.

Nuclear Warheads Race from 1945 to 2014

Every one of us take pride is boosting our military capabilities, As a citizen of a nuclear armed country I too take pride in our ability to defend our self from potential threats.

However, just out of curiosity,  When I looked at the stock pile of nuclear warheads among the 9 counties who have declared possessing nuclear warheads it was really mind boggling.

It is too scary to imagine if something were to go wrong!

What was shocking is, the way two super powers of the world that is America and Russia competed each in a race for almost for 50 years in stocking the nuclear warheads that inspired me to create this video for education purpose.
